Neil Cowley a accompagné jusqu’en 2002 comme producteur et claviérste scénique des groupes sould & funk comme Zéro 7, Gabrielle et Brand New Heavies. Puis il a fondé son propre groupe, Fragile State.

Le premier album The Facts and The Dreams a été considéré comme un album majeur du mouvement « downtempo. » Il nous présente ici son album Displaced, a qui la critique anglaise a réservé un accueil unanime.
